Rivers: Chidi Orlu Emerges Chairman Of Association Of Master Bakers

(By Silas Tamuno) – The Association of Master Bakers in Rivers State now has a new chairman. He is Mr. Chidi Orlu, who emerged unopposed and with 65 votes.

In his post election speech, Mr. Chidi Orlu promised to be accountable , adding that his administration would be all inclusive, while establishing and maintaining a fruitful relationship with government and its agencies.

The new chairman, who also doubles as national financial secretary of the Association of Master Bakers in the South South zone of Nigeria further promised that his administration would dialogue with the state and local governments on how to reduce the tax burden on members of the association and also check cases of multiple taxation.

Chidi Orlu proposed an arrangement whereby tax obligations of members are collected centrally and paid to government, instead of the situation where payments are made to different agencies of government by members of the association.

The chairman however disclosed that, the association at the national level has started negotiating with banks to extend credit facilities to members, even as he hinted of plans by his administration to build a functional state secretariat for the association.

The new leadership of Master Bakers in Rivers State, according to Mr. Orlu, is also considering setting up a cooperative society that will enable members get raw materials at lower prices, that would enable them to remain in business.

In his own remarks, the immediate past chairman of Master Bakers association in Rivers State, Mr.Kolawale Adelekun congratulated the new leaders on their emergence. He urged them to work hard to meet the expectations of members.

Other members of the new executive are Ifeyi Livinus (vice chairman), Nwaoha Joseph Chimezie (secretary), Mrs. Okpalogu Chinazor ( assistant secretary), Mrs. Chinonye Osigwe(treasurer), Mr. Nkachi Batholomew (financial secretary, Stephen Akpan ( public relations officer), Abiodun Ajibude (provost) while Mmecha Nwanaya is the welfare officer.
