Rivers Elders Caution Against Harassment Of Lee Maeba, Advises Police, Other Security Agencies Not To Take Sides

Elders of Rivers State under the aegis of Forum Of Rivers Elders, FORE, has condemned in its entirety the unprovoked attack on the person and properties of the Distinguished Senator Lee Maeba in his GRA Phase 3 residence in Port Harcourt on Thursday, November 8, 2022.

The attackers, numbering over 15 energetic young men were said to have gained entry into the palatial home of the senator after holding the security men hostage, and shooting every object on sight.

A statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Elders Forum, Dr. Ignatius S. Douglas, in reaction to the attack, described Senator Lee Maeba as too gentle to be harmed.

The statement further alleged that the political leadership in Rivers State have become so aggressive to their former political allies, and described the development as alien, and capable of worsening the insecurity situation and plunging Rivers into a state of emergency.

The Forum of Rivers Elders further urged Senator Maeba to be courageous, and be continue to trust in the Almighty God, who alone gives power, summing that “no condition is permanent, and power is transient”.

Recalling the powerful statement of his inlaw, late Chief Osimini Beke, of Elibrada, Dr. Douglas said that:

“Political power is like standing fan. It swings from one corner to the other and each corner it turns enjoy cool air while the other corner suffer hot air.

He further advised that those holding political power today should be cautious of this wise saying and don’t oppress the innocent.

“Lee Maeba did not commit any offence to warrant the attack on his person and his property”, he concluded.
