The Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, will hold the inaugural OB Fubara Memorial Gold Paper Lecture on Wednesday December 23, 2020.
A statement issued by Chinedu Emeana, public relations officer of NIPR, Rivers State indicated that the event will take place in Abonnema, in Akuku Toru local Government Area of Rivers State, the home town of the late OB Fubara.
The theme of the lecture is “Community Development: The way forward” to be delivered by Professor Nimi Briggs, eminent scholar and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt with Mallam Mukhtar Sirajo, President of NIPR as the chief host of the event.
Her Excellency Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, Deputy Governor of Rivers will grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour while Honourable Rowland Sekibo, chairman of Akuku Toru LGA is the Guest of Honour. His Royal Majesty Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel, the Amanyanabo of Abonnema will be the Royal Father of the Day.
Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, chairman of the Rivers state of NIPR, explaining the reasoning behind instituting the OB FUBARA Memorial Gold Paper Lecture, explained that it is to immortalize a great son of Rivers state who bestrode the national Public Relations landscape while helping to establish the Rivers state chapter.
“Late Alabo Olu Benibo Fubara was instrumental to the formation of the Rivers state chapter of NIPR and mentored many who are today driving the communications industry. He also introduced several innovative and beneficial programmes that uplifted the profession and many practitioners”, Pastor Nsirim said.
Nsirim, who is also the Commissioner of Information of Rivers State, added: “worthy of mention is that when OB FUBARA retired from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) where he served as the first Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs, and the corporation requested him to name a parting gift, he used the opportunity to further the empowering of the next generation by requesting that books be donated to the then Rivers State University of Science and Technology now Rivers State University”.
Late OB FUBARA was Chief Press Secretary to the first military governor of Rivers state, Alfred Diete Spiff and was instrumental in the establishment of Radio Rivers FM station, serving as its first General Manager.
The lecture is open to Public relations practitioners, development scholars, community development enthusiast, leaders of the political and traditional institutions and members of the general public.
