(By Ayo Memeh)-Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has once again been confirmed as a rare gift to the people of Rivers State and the leader the people can trust, who has no alternative in the area of political leadership and governance.
This was the view of the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters and Strategy, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, while speaking to journalists on the sideline of the state funeral ceremony of the late Honourable Attorney General of Rivers State, Emmanuel Chiwenwo Aguma, Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Chief Emeh said it is obvious that Governor Wike has demonstrated that he has the milk of human kindness, and that it is a rare privilege for the people of Rivers State to have him drive the affairs of the state at this time when the state really needs quality direction and leadership.
He also described the late Attorney General as an embodiment of law and quintessential legal practitioner, who remained until his death a mentor of very many young lawyers in the state. The political strategist also described the late Aguma as competent, committed and dependable.
“You need not ask the question on whether or not Governor Wike has come to stay as a politician that people of Rivers State can trust. The governor, even taking what happened today has passed the test of a dependable and trustworthy leader, who also continued using the language of Nigerians , carrying his followers along.
“There is no doubt that a decision to support Wike, and being in the same political boat with him has a reward as it is on record that he has never and does not forget those who have played along with him.
“In the case of late Attorney General and commitment he has given to his family, those who know Wike can only attest to the fact that this is just a tip of the iceberg, as giving has become part and parcel of the Rumuepirikom – born politician.
“You asked whether the late Emmanuel Chiwenwo Aguma has any biological relationship with Governor Wike for him to shower this unprecedented love to him and his family even in death, given the elaborate funeral ceremony organized by the Rivers State government under the able leadership of Wike, I can give you a direct and simple answer that, you don’t need to have any particular kind of relationship for Wike to appreciate you and extend favour accordingly.
“Governor Wike’s yardstick for measuring what is available to anybody is just your intelligence, commitment, capacity and of course you don’t remove loyalty in carrying out any assignment given to you. It does not matter where you come from, Wike, to the best of my knowledge and for the period I have encountered him in politics and governance, he can be described in the words of the great Mao of China as a leader who is a slave to a superior opinion.
“What that means is that, once you show brilliance, intelligence and ability to perform and indeed can deliver on assignments given to you, you are Wike’s friend and brother. I can assure you on the outcome of the burial ceremony of late Aguma that it is very very successful.
“The lesson we learnt from late Aguma’s experience is that, it is not how long you live but how well. Above all, all of us who worked with him at the Rivers State Executive Council and indeed Rivers people will continue to thank Governor Wike for opening a new vista of human relationship with friends and relations.
“Governor Wike’s example and action, particularly as it concerns his relationship with those who encounter him is not only phenomenal but worthy of emulation. This perhaps is the reason why support for the peoples governor is very infectious that those who come across him in politics find it difficult to leave him.
“The general and unanimous impression is that, Governor Wike does not leave you the same way he met you, he ensures that he adds value to your experience”, he summed..
It will be recalled that late Emmanuel Chiwenwo Aguma died on the 10th of August in a London hospital after a brief illness. It is also on record that the funeral ceremony witnessed the presence of Rivers politicians, so that those who have not seen themselves in the last couple of years were there to pay their last respects, including Rivers former governor, Dr. Peter Odili and his wife Mary, Judge of the Supreme Court; former governors Celestine Omehia and Chibuike Amaechi as well as Governor Ezenwo Wike who was the chief mourner.
