President Muhammadu Buhari

(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – The last is yet to be heard about the free for all over the control of the All Progressives Congress, APC, between the camp supporting the presidential aspiration of Ahmed Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State and another loyal to Chibuike Amaechi, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation. This is because President Muhammadu Buhari has openly declared his support for Victor Gaidom as the acting National Chairman of the ruling APC, a development that has given the upper hand to the Amaechi camp, although the minister says that he was watching the drama from a distance.

In his Tweeter handle on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu disclosed that the President’s support for Giadom was the outcome of his consultations over the crisis in the party.

He further hinted that the President will be attending the virtual meeting that has been called by Victor Giadom on Thursday afternoon with governors and leaders of the national assembly.
He words: “The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.

“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter”.
It would be recalled that a similar feat was recorded by the Amaechi camp in Rivers State where the table was turnd against Igo Aguma, who paraded as the acting chairman of the APC in Rivers State for some days in favour of Sekonte Davies, an ally of the minister.
If things remain the way they are, it means that the Amaechi ca,p are in control of the APC both at the state and at the centre but there are indications that their opponents are in the mood to sutain the fight in the days ahead.
