UNIPORT Student, Mercy Genesis Now Number 1 Wrestler In Africa … As Fans Pray For Recovery Of Injured Olympian, Caroline

(By Chris K. Amadi) -Mercy Genesis, a third year student of University of Port Harcourt has been ranked the number one wrestler in Africa by the United World Wrestling in January 2018.
According to reports, the new ranking has lifted 48kg Nigerian wrestler and African champion to number 20.
The only African in the 48kg ranking,  Mercy Genesis was said to have broken into limelight after overpowering Rosemary Nweke at the 2015 All Africa Games trials in Abuja, even as the NWF secretary Ahmed Abdullahi was reported as saying in Abuja that the camping in preparation for 2018 Common Wealth Games would hold in three phases in Port Harcourt, from January 5 to February 12, while the second phase would commence immediately after the end of the first phase.

It would be recalled that Mercy Genesis, the Bayelsa born female wrestling champion did Nigeria proud by winning gold in the final of the 2015 AAG in Congo after overcoming Rebecca Nuambo of Cameroon.
