(By Chris  K. Amadi) – An alleged plan to rig the 2019 elections in Rivers, Delta and Akwa-Ibom states has been uncovered by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Speaking when he received the management of Daily Independent newspaper who were in Port Harcourt to convey the award of Political Icon of the Year in 2017 to him in Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Wike informed his visitors that the All progressives Congress, APC, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has planned to rig the 2019 elections in the three states in two ways:
The first plan, according to Wike is to exclude some of the smaller parties from the ballot papers so that, at the end of the election, the small parties so excluded can invoke the Electoral Act to call for cancellation.
The governor further hinted that the second plan is to use federal machinery to cause enough mayhem in the state, such that the INEC can feign the excuse of insecurity and will not hold election on the same day in those states.
Governor Wike warned that the wicked plans will not work because Rivers people will resist it, even as he called on the International Community to take note of the wield plans of the APC.
“We have been shouting that the APC Federal Government are not prepared to run the country. Either they are incapable or they are displaying sheer wickedness to suppress the citizens of this country. We are prepared to resist it. We have in the past complained to anybody who is prepared to listen including the International Community of these plans as any attempt to go the way they are planning will result in chaos which will do good to nobody.
We are therefore advising the APC led Federal Government and all those who think the only way to win election is to rig rather than put on ground infrastructure that will attract loyalty of electorates to cast their votes for the party that has performed and has the capacity to perform in the future “, Wike emphasized.
Earlier, the leader of Daily Independent newspaper delegation,  Ade Ogidan  had said  that they were in government House to inform the governor of his selection for the award of Political Icon of the Year 2017.
Leader of the delegation informed Wike that his nomination and sellection was done by readers of their paper globally.
He explained that Daily Independent is one of the fastest growing newspapers in the country, stressing that he was selected based on his performance , which gave rise to the acronym of Mr. Project.
He further informed the governor that a formal presentation of the award has been slated for February 17, 2019 in Lagos, wishing that that governor and Rivers people will attend the ceremony planned to be very colourful.
