Why Barcelona Turned Against  Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi had his final press conference today at Barcelona after confirming his departure from the club. The Barcelona legend couldn’t fight back tears as he bid farewell to Barcelona and his fans at Camp Nou. Interestingly, the 34-year-old forward said he never felt betrayed by Barcelona and he left the club base on mutual agreement.

Lionel Messi went emotional in front of thousands of Barcelona fans after just five seconds into his press conference at Barcelona, where he finally opened up on his exit from the club. Arguably Lionel Messi still have Barcelona in his heart because he never planned to leave the club this summer or next. His move away from the Catalan giants was triggered on financial and structural obstacles which the club had to obey to avoid getting sanctioned.

Despite Messi reaching an agreement with Barca and Laporta to reduce his contract by 50% to enable him remain at Barcelona, the board couldn’t strike the deal due to La Liga restrictions on financial fair play. Messi was convinced to stay at Barcelona, it was his plan to remain at the club. But at the end he had to say goodbye to the club who accepted him when no club was interested.

When asked if he feel betrayed by Barcelona, Lionel Messi responded saying: “No, no.. let’s be clear. I’m always happy with our fans and members. We all tried to do it but we couldn’t”, he said.

Lionel Messi gave enough reasons to always carry Barcelona in his heart wherever he goes amid his imminent deal to PSG who are one of the favorite team to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner as a free agent this summer.

Messi disclosed that he had been thinking about what to say to his fans for few days, he can’t believe he had to bid farewell to them so soon, it’s very difficult for him, after so many years, his whole life he wasn’t ready to leave Barcelona. He said in tears as he bid farewell to Barcelona at Camp Nou press conference.
