(By Chris K.Amadi)-Governor Nyesom Wike’s personal character of humility and openness in his relations with people irrespective of political leaning has made his sojourn in politics easy and smooth.
This declaration was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Strategy, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, while addressing a delegation of Student Network for Democratic Values, who paid him a visit in his office in Port Harcourt on Friday, describing Governor Wike as a simple and firm politician, who relates freely with all without discrimination.
“In the past close to four years, Governor Wike has shown that there should be no barriers in service to the people irrespective of ethnicity. You all reside in this state and can attest to the fact that Governor Wike has redefined governance to mean inclusiveness and capacity to provide the required infrastructure for the benefit of the citizenry. This is the reason why our people no longer bother about where the leader comes from.
“Prior to Wikes emergence as the governor of our dear sate, there was this ugly narrative of upland and reverine sentiment but Wike ‘s disposition and attitude in spreading infrastructure across all the ethnic nationalities in the state has made politics and governance easy for any person who would aspire to be governor of the state after his constitutional eight years in 2023. It is therefore no longer fashionable for anybody to play to the gallery of ethnic sentiments.
“ Let me assure you that you will surely be part of the numerous organizations that are working for the governor’s re-election in 2019. I advice that you remain open minded and focused in your membership drive in order to widen your support base for Wike in 2019”, the special adviser emphasized.
Speaking further, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh promised his guests that he will provide them with facilities to embark on a sample tour of the state, to see for themselves that Governor Wike treated all ethnic groups fairly.
“I feel proud that our state in this 21st century is blessed with a leader that has shown kindness and generosity to all manner of men, such that you can see his foot prints in Ogoni, Kalabari and the Opobo/Andoni/Nkoro/Bonny axis of the state. The story is the same in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area as well as the entire Ekpeye kingdom. When you go to Etche /Omuma, Oyigbo and the people of Ikwerre ethnic nationality, you will also see obvious evidence of fairness in governance and a leader that is detribalized .
“This is why Rivers people have continued to believe that it will take another generation to see another leader with a more outstanding character and nature than that of Governor Wike, hence the popular belief that there is no alternative to the governor at this present time in Rivers State. I therefore call on your organization and all other organizations and persons of goodwill to continue to mobilize support for the man that the cap fits”, Chief Emeh concluded.
Earlier in his address, the Coordinator, Student Network for Democratic Values, Solomon Akrokeya Princewill, had informed the special adviser that the purpose of their visit was to seek his support for a solidarity road match in support of the governor scheduled for September 22.
He enumerated the giant strides Governor Wike has recorded in the short period of his administration and called on politicians in the state to join hands with him to continue to liberate and refocus the state towards greater achievements.
“As an organization, we have watched the manner Governor Wike has related with the people of the state. We are aware of the existence of other organizations that are working for his re-election, including the Grassroots Development Initiative, Wike Solidarity Movement, Wike for Positive Change and many others.
“We want to use the opportunity of this visit to request that our organization be listed among those to be counted when the victory of Governor Wike is celebrated in 2019. Politics in our state should no longer be ethnic based and we are happy that Wike has changed the opinion and impression of politicians in this regard, for which we are grateful to him and to God”, he declared.
