(By Chris K. Amadi) – Inauguration of building and road projects has become the passion of Governor Wike of Rivers State, and no part of Rivers State is left behind.
Speaking on the sideline of the flag off of Umueze-Umuogba-Umuogbrugbu-Umueke-Umunju-Umuelechi-Eberi road in Omuma Local GovernmentArea of Rivers State on Saturday by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters and Strategy, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh described the building of the road network as not only monumental but unparallel in the annals of road infrastructural development in Rivers State.
“From the address of Omuma people, no one is left in doubt as to how the community feels on a day like this. Wike has broken the jinx and redefined governance to mean taking development to the grassroots. There is no other way the people of Omuma in particular and Rivers people in general can describe the experience of today.
“As a person, I am overwhelmed, and indeed flabbergasted, and therefore lacking in words to describe the governor and his determination to urbanise the state by the type of utility projects he is putting on ground for the benefit of our people”, Emeh emphasized.
The former Chief of Staff, Government House recalled that a few days ago Governor Wike was at Eleme to flag off Abonchia – Eleme – Oyigbo road just as a day earlier, he was at Etche to inaugurate Odufo- Akpoko- Umuoye road project spanning five communities.
Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh also recalled that during the week, the governor visited Oyigbo Local Government Area, describing the state’s chief executive as a grassroots governor who is not only developing the city centre of Rivers State but also reaching out to the grass roots .
“You journalists are aware that Governor Wike is at home with his people. If it is not road project today, it is either school, hospital or even church, therefore making the governor the man of the people.
“It is therefore not in doubt that the achievement of Wike has continuously dashed the hopes of opposition in whatever colouration they are in the state”, the Special Adviser explained.
He recalled that last week , numerous organisations were united in their opinion that Wike has performed creditably well to merit constitutional right of second tenure in 2019.They also called on the governor, who they described as the Peoples’ Governor, to present himself for re-election in 2019.
The organisations, according to the Special Adviser include Rivers Elders Consultative Council led by Chief (Dr.)Granville Abiye Georgewill; Coalition of Rivers Patriots led by Barr. Barilede Thompson; National Association of Rivers Daughters led by Dr. Mrs. Daba Adesanya nee Inko-Taria; Rivers Women led by Mrs Adokiye Amiesimaka and Ogoni Women for Wike led by Miss Vikue. The list of groups calling on the governor to seek a second term because of his uncommon achievements include Wike Solidarity Movement led by Dr. Gabriel Pidomson; Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, led by Bright Amaewhule; Popular View Support Group led by Engr. Ebittonye Abasa; Iwhuruoha Women led by Eunice Igwe; Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA,Women whose address was read by Dr (Mrs) Akaloku; Non indige
nes Without Borders led by Hon. Emeka Onowu; Traders in Rivers State and many other groups.
His words: ” This is the extent the people of Rivers State appreciate that the governor is working and that they are the beneficiaries of dividends of democracy. We cannot but thank God that, at this time in the history of our state, He gave us a leader we can trust in Wike”, the former commissioner for transport and aviation stated.
On the law setting up the Neighbourhood Watch, Chief Emeh commended Governor Wike for his foresight and commitment to ensuring that his constitutional obligation to protect lives and property of Rivers people is achieved. He further maintained that it is foolhardy for any individual or group of people not to appreciate the good intentions of the governor in providing institutional framework for the actualization of the constitutional provision and responsibility of leadership in governance.
“When my attention was drawn to the opinion expressed by the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State on the Neighbourhood Watch Law, my first reaction was to ignore it because at the level of Governor Wike’s performance in government, we should understand that he is no longer a leader to be discussed in beer parlours.
“The reason is because, very reasonable people including our elders and professionals who are genuine Rivers men and women have come out to appreciate the standard the award winning governor has put in place in the state.
“There is no doubt that those who criticise the law and indeed any other achievements of the governor are either not residing in the state or have lost touch with reality of governance.
“Take the example of ONELGA that has been under siege all through the eight years of the immediate past administration. All businesses were closed, residents were relocating and opportunists were even buying off properties in the are.
“ The people are now enjoying because of the commitment of the governor and Caretaker Committee Chairman, Barr. Osi Olisa which led to the establishment of Omoku Security Planning and Advisory Commission, OSPAC, an internal security outfit that has given the erstwhile troubled LGA a new lease of life, such that the people can now sleep with two eyes closed.
“The governor’s intervention and the corresponding result earned the governor the title of: Okwu – eme of Ogbaland, which being translated means the man who keeps his word.
“OSPAC, which is like Neighbourhood Watch has shown that such idea can work elsewhere in the state given the success recorded in ONELGA. While we appreciate efforts of the police in Nigeria and Rivers State in particular, there is no doubt that an internal security outfit, with sufficient knowledge of the local environment, especially the history and geography of the area will assist the security agencies in doing their jobs effectively”, he posited, adding that Rivers people support the Neighbourhood Watch initiative to take full advantage of the benefits recorded by OSPAC.
The Emohua born political tactician commended Governor Wike for his commitment to advancing the course of development in the state, while reassuring that the people are behind him always irrespective of the antics of the APC to distract him from delivering the dividends of democracy to Rivers people.
On the matter of springing up of new Support Groups for Governor Wike, the Special Adviser said it is a welcome development which evidence the acceptance level of the governor.
“There is no conflict whatsoever. All the support groups are working in tandem and supportive of one another. The newest of them all which is the Wike Solidarity Movement is well organised. The original support group which is GDI is a foundation support outfit.
“The two of them compliment each other. All other groups are united in there opinion that there is no alternative to Wike in 2019 and I want to assure you that we are working with them and the governor is happy with the level of commitment of these organisations. And for me, I thank God for the opportunity given to me by Governor Wike to be responsible for the coordination of all these bodies under the office of the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters and Strategy””, Chief Emeh summed..
