(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-As the government and people of Rives State mourn the sudden passing of Mr.Emmanuel Chinwo Aguma, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, on Friday, the chairman, Board of Trustees, BOT, of Wike Solidarity Movement, WSM, and other officers of the group have joined other shocked friends, relations and associates of the departed distinguished lawyer to condole the Aguma family in Port Harcourt.
Speaking after signing the condolence register on Saturday, the chairman of WSM BOT, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, said the Wike Solidarity Movement received the news of Mr. Chinwo Aguma’s passing with unimaginable shock, describing his sudden exit as a great loss to the state. He said that, the senior advocate of Nigeria, “had the height of a king, the voice of a veteran newscaster and the mind of a colossus, but chose the path of those we call the learned”.
Hon. Gabriel Pidomson, former Secretary to Rivers State Government, while expressing his heartfelt condolences, disclosed that the late Aguma was a supporter of WSM until his death, and described his demise is ” a colossal loss not only to the legal profession and Rivers State, but to Nigeria at large”
Responding on behalf of the family, the younger brother of the late commissioner, Hon. Igo Aguma, thanked Hon. Gabriel Pidomson and the WSM family for the visit, while noting that the death of his elder brother was a rude shock to the family.
Hon. Aguma, former member of House of Representatives and chieftain of All progressives Congress in Rivers State further hinted that they had spoken two days before the sad event, without him having an inkling of what was to happen, even as he said that the difference in political affiliations did not affect their relationship as brothers.
He also revealed that his late brother taught him that life is not all about politics but about relationship, and that this world is a short race that one must endeavour to make the best out of it.
It would be recalled that, the late Chinwe Aguma, SAN, was appointed Attorney General of Rivers State by Governor Nyesom Wike in 2015, the same year he was honoured with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Between 2000 and 2002, he served as Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, and chairman from 2006 to 2008.
He left behind a wife, children and other relations.
