Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike congratulating the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Chief Tom Aliezi after his inauguration at the Government House Port Harcourt on Monday

(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has sworn in Hon. Tom Aliezi, as the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area. Also sworn in was Hon. Victor Ihunwo as Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council and other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the June 16 council election which was conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected council chairmen at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike charged them to give priority to payment of salaries, promotion of security and environmental sanitation.
The governor harped on the need for the chairmen to work closely with security agencies and harmoniously with their councilors in order to have a conducive atmosphere for development and also check cases of avoidable conflicts in the councils.
A statement by the governor’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu further hinted that the governor charged the council chairmen of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Degema to evolve appropriate mechanisms to ensure security of lives and property in their communities, while those of Port Harcourt City, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Oyigbo and Eleme Local Government Councils were advised to keep their councils clean by giving priority attention to environmental sanitation.
