(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)- The people of Kalabari are appreciative of all the developmental initiatives of the Governor Nyesom Wike administration, and are optimistic that his commitment will make the dream of Trans – Kalabari road a reality in no distant time.
This assertion was made by the immediate past sole administrator of Delta Hotels Limited, Chief Ibiba Georgewill, in a chat with Notable Outcome. in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
“All of us know that our governor is an action man. I know that he will not talk about anything he knows he is not going to do. Right from when he started in 2015, all the promises he made he has fulfilled, not just for the Kalabari people but also in other parts of the state that he made one promise or the other.
“For him to come out to say I am going to do Trans – Kalabari road, it means that there is not only someone who can do it, that he also has the money to do it.
“I believe this time, Kalabari people will have a road that will traverse communities of the three local government areas of Degema, Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru.
Responding to a question, Chief Georgewill said:
“Every Kalabari man and woman, boy and girl know the importance of this road, so I do not think there will be anybody that will want to stand on the way of this project.
“Even the youths are eager. If the road project starts, a lot of the youths will be gainfully employed in construction work. The project will also bring access to the nooks and crannies of Kalabari land.
” I believe all the youths are going to embrace the project. I advicethe youths to give it full support because it is for their benefit”.
On complaints in some quarters that Governor Wike is concentrating development projects in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor, Chief Ibiba Georgewill had this to say:
“For me who is from Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, I will tell you that in the first 100 days of Governor Wike administration, the bridge between Abonnema and Obonoma was completed.
“Nyemoni Grammar School renovation was among the first projects he awarded on assumption of office. And the project has since been completed.
“He promised us Phase 2 of the Abonnema ring road, and he has not only completed but has also commissioned it. After promising the sand filling of Abonnema/Obonoma, he has sent engineers to evaluate the project.
” Sandfilling is ongoing in Kula and other Kalabari towns.
So when people say that he is concentrating in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor, I laugh.
“Whether you like it or not, Port Harcourt is the capital city of the state and deserves attention that it is receiving. There is the saying that when you see how the capital is, you can imagine how the rural areas would be.
” Most of the infrastructure in Port Harcourt are used by everybody irrespective of nationality, tribal, religious or political affiliations, and not by only Ikwerre people. As a mater of fact, the facilities are used more by non Ikwerre people who visit, live and do business in Rivers State”, the former sole administrator emphasized.
He assured the company that will execute the Trans- Kalabari road project of the support of Kalabari people, adding that the people are eager to see the dream road become a reality in no distant time.
